Ekiti To Establish New Model Colleges

Our Assessment

This promise is rated Completed. Governor Fayemi established the new model colleges. He inaugurated model smart secondary schools across the three senatorial districts of the state. This makes it 3 model colleges in total. This promise was fulfilled before the end of Fayemi’s administration.

Why It Matters

The promise matters because the new model colleges, built with modern infrastructure in each senatorial district, aim to end rural-urban migration for quality education. Governor Fayemi noted this would retain talent, boost local economies, and provide world-class learning environments for Ekiti children.

Progress So Far

Oct 12, 2023 Updated: Jun 19, 2026

Fayemi approved and constructed multiple model colleges across Ekiti State

In September 2021, Gov. Fayemi announced the construction of four model colleges in Ado-Ekiti to decongest overcrowded schools in the state capital, naming them after Ekiti icons including Ayo Fasanmi, Banji Akintoye, David Oke, and Deji Fasuan .

This promise was later strengthened on October 5, 2022, when Governor Fayemi inaugurated three model smart secondary schools across the three senatorial districts. These were Harding College (a 36-classroom facility) in Ado Ekiti, and Senatorial Model Smart Schools in Isan and Ijan Ekiti . These schools are equipped with modern facilities including ICT laboratories, science laboratories (chemistry, biology, physics), home economics labs, sick bays, water treatment plants, and examination halls.

To cap it up, the governor also inaugurated a new SUBEB office complex alongside the schools and presented N10 million cash gifts to the best teachers in primary and secondary categories. The Executive Secretary of UBEC noted that these smart schools ensure students in rural areas are not denied access to quality basic education..
