Reconstruction Of Ilupeju-Ire-Igbemo-Ijan Road

Our Assessment

This promise is rated completed. The road was flagged off in January 2020 and commissioned in October 2021, fulfilling Fayemi's promise despite initial contract abandonment by the previous administration.

Why it Matters

This road is critical to Ekiti's industrial economy. Ire town is renowned for its burnt brick industry, and the road directly enables the movement of these products from production sites to markets across the state and beyond. Without a reliable road, the brick industry suffers transportation delays and higher costs, limiting job creation and economic growth in the affected communities.

Fayemi Reconstructs Ilupeju- Ijan Road in Ekiti

The Ilupeju-Ire-Igbemo-Ijan road was flagged off for reconstruction on January 13, 2020, alongside three other major roads. The project was a re-award of a contract originally given during Fayemi's first term (2010-2014) but abandoned by the succeeding administration.

In October 2021, as part of the third-anniversary celebrations of his second term, Governor Fayemi commissioned the completed road. Fayemi explained that the road's economic importance is to resolve the challenge of moving the Ire Burnt Brick products from the town to other parts of the state and the country at large.

The Ijan Progressive Union publicly acknowledged the governor's achievement, describing "the road as an edifice for Ijan in particular and other towns in general" and listing it among eight developmental projects delivered to the community. The road was also scheduled for commissioning by the Governors of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Jigawa States during their November 2021 visit to Ekiti, underscoring its significance as a showcase project.
