All Our Specialist And Secondary Health Facilities Will Receive A Comprehensive Face-lift And At Least Sixty More Primary Health Facilities Will Be Upgraded.

Our Assessment

This promised is rated completed. The government renovated 12 general hospitals and established fully functional PHCs in all 177 wards, exceeding the 60-PHC target.

Why it Matters

Functional secondary and primary health facilities are the backbone of accessible care. A comprehensive face-lift ensures referral hospitals can handle complex cases, while upgrading primary centers brings routine immunization, maternal services, and treatment to rural communities. This saves lives by reducing travel distances and out-of-pocket costs for poor households.

Progress So Far

Governor Fayemi Delivered on his promises

According to the Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, the government invested significantly in renovating 12 high-burden general hospitals out of 22 in the state, equipping them with modern facilities to serve as referral centers to primary health facilities. The tertiary health facility was also upgraded, with renovation of the eye and dental care centres and establishment of a new intensive care unit .

At the primary level, the government established fully functional Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in all 177 wards in Ekiti State, exceeding the target of 60 upgrades . In 2021, the state procured brand new life-saving medical equipment and distributed them across the PHC centres. Additionally, the government leveraged the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, setting aside over N300 million to fund one health facility per political ward . Signposts were erected across all 16 local government areas to display the package of services available at these PHCs.
