We Plan To Complete The Remaining Abandoned Blocks In 2021 In Addition To Ensuring The Landscaping And Beautification Of The Entire Secretariat Complex.

Our Assessment

This promise is rated completed. The abandoned secretariat blocks were completed and the entire complex landscaped by October 2021, fulfilling Fayemi's promise.

Why it Matters

For 12 years, Ekiti civil servants worked in dilapidated, unsafe buildings with collapsed roofs and crumbling walls. Completing abandoned secretariat blocks restores dignity to the workforce, improves productivity, and demonstrates that government values its employees beyond salary payments. It also stops the waste of public funds from abandoned projects.

Progress So Far

Governor Fayemi Commissions the abandoned Block of the Secretariat Complex in Ekiti

In 2019, his administration earmarked N1 billion for the completion of abandoned buildings and rehabilitation of structures at the State Secretariat, Ado Ekiti. The governor personally inspected the sites and ordered the immediate evacuation of staff from dilapidated buildings to enable rehabilitation work.

The secretariat buildings – Phase 5 Lots 1 and 2 – had been abandoned for 12 years before Fayemi's intervention. In February 2020, during an on-the-spot assessment of major project sites, Fayemi reiterated his commitment: "That we are completing these secretariat buildings that have been abandoned for 12 years... does not mean we have all the money. We just have to be prudent in the management of the little resources we have". By October 2021, the landscaping and beautification of the entire secretariat complex with new office blocks, paved walkways, and improved aesthetics was completed as part of the administration's third-anniversary celebrations.
