Provide Potable Tap Water To 14 LGAs Communities On Completion Of Ero And Egbe Dams Rehabilitation

Our Assessment

This promise is rated partially completedEro and Egbe dams were rehabilitated and inaugurated by September 2022, restoring potable water supply to communities across 2 LGAs instead of the 14 LGAs that was provided.

Why it Matters

Over 70% of rural Ekiti lacks access to pipe-borne water, forcing communities to rely on unsafe streams and wells. Completing Ero and Egbe dams would supply clean water to 14 local government areas, reducing waterborne diseases, saving women and children hours of daily hauling, and enabling small-scale irrigation for dry-season farming.

Progress So Far

Apr 06, 2021 Updated: Jun 25, 2026

World Bank, Ekiti Govt. Approve N19.8bn For Ero, Egbe Dams Rehabilitation

Governor Fayemi substantially delivered on this promise. The rehabilitation of both dams was completed under the Third National Urban Water Sector Reform Project, a World Bank-assisted programme with a $50 million credit facility and N986.7 million counterpart funding from Ekiti State.

After decades of being moribund, the Egbe dam was fully rehabilitated and inaugurated in September 2022 as part of Fayemi's fourth-anniversary celebrations. The project restored pipe-borne water to communities in Ayekire Local Government Area and Gbonyin Local Council Development Area.

The dam on the Ero River in Moba Local Government Area was also rehabilitated with a combined daily drinking water supply capacity across three schemes (Ero, Ureje, and Egbe) of 180,500 cubic meters. A 251-kilometer pipeline network was installed to transmit water to communities.

The European Union supported the programme with N1.4 billion, while the state provided N543 million counterpart funding. Governor Fayemi also established the Ekiti State Water and Sewerage Company Limited to replace the former Water Corporation, ensuring sustainable management of the schemes.

However, the promise of potable water was only delivered in 2 LGAs instead of the promised 14 LGAs. The promise is necessary for citizens to access essential service (potable water).
