The New Year Will Also Witness The Implementation Of The Tourism Master Plan In The State

Our Assessment

This promise is rated Broken. The Tourism Master Plan was not implemented in 2021. A broader 30-year Development Plan was launched instead, just before Fayemi left office.

Why it Matters

Ekiti is blessed with unique tourist attractions like Ikogosi Warm Spring, Arinta Waterfall, and Fajuyi Park, but they remain underdeveloped. A Tourism Master Plan provides a strategic framework for investment, marketing, and infrastructure. Implementation would create jobs, generate revenue, diversify the economy beyond civil service, and showcase Ekiti's cultural and natural heritage.

Progress So Far

Fayemi unveils 30-year Development Plan but no sign of Tourism Master Plan

While Fayemi unveiled a 30-year Development Plan (2021-2050) for Ekiti State two weeks before the end of his administration – which included a section on art, culture, and tourism – this fell short of the specific promise to implement a standalone Tourism Master Plan. The 30-year Development Plan launched in October 2022 (just before Fayemi left office) was a broad economic blueprint covering multiple sectors. The Tourism Master Plan, which would have provided detailed strategies for specific sites like Ikogosi Warm Spring and Arinta Waterfall, was either not finalised or not implemented before his tenure ended. Unlike other infrastructure and education promises with clear commissioning events (Civic Centre, secretariat, markets), this promise lacked verifiable evidence of delivery..
