  • Fayemi Inaugurates Ekiti CARES steering committee

    Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State on Monday inaugurated a nine-man committee to give policy direction to the implementation of the State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (CARES) programme designed to support livelihood of the poor and vulnerable households in the state.

    The CARES is a jointly developed World Bank-supported programme aimed at mitigating the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.

    Governor Fayemi while inaugurating the committee member in Ado-ekiti, to mark the formal activation of the CARES programme in the state, explained that the programme would also support budgeted state government interventions for farmers, artisans, Micro and Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) affected by the economic crisis occasioned by the pandemic.

    Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on 12 April, 2022 distributed cheques worth N360 million to 24 communities, as part of efforts to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the poor and vulnerable as well as ensure the reduction of poverty to the barest minimum.

    According to the governor, Ekiti State COVID Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (Ekiti CARES) program was the aftermath of how the state was looking at ways to alleviate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the socio-economic well-being of the people and support budgeted government intervention at the state level, targeting existing and newly vulnerable and poor households like farmers, artisans and micro and small scale enterprises affected by the economic crises occasioned by the pandemic.
