Commence Rehabilitation And Reconstruction Of Ogotun - Alagbede Before The End Of January 2021

Our Assessment

This promise is rated Completed. The Ogotun-Alagbede road was flagged off on January 15, 2021, fulfilling the commencement promise. However, the road projects were never completed under Gov. Fayemi. The promise was specifically about commencement before end of January 2021, not completion, and this was achieved.

Why it Matters

Ogotun-Alagbede road connects several farming communities in Ekiti South West Local Government Area. Commencing rehabilitation on schedule improves rural mobility, reduces isolation, and encourages agro-processing investments. Meeting the January 2021 deadline sets a precedent for timeline accountability in rural infrastructure delivery. However, full construction of the road will even strengthen infrastructure in Ekiti state.

Fayemi Flags off Ogotun-Alagbede Road in Ekiti

The Ogotun-Alagbede road was explicitly listed as the first among the six pilot roads in Governor Fayemi's 1,000km rural roads flag-off on January 15, 2021. The project is under the RAAMP programme, co-financed by the World Bank and the French Agency for Development (AFD). The flag-off occurred before the end of January 2021, exactly as promised. The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, stated that the roads would stimulate grassroots economy, provide market access for farm produce, and prevent post-harvest losses. Contractors were instructed to engage local artisans and workmen to benefit the communities. While update from the RAAMP roads show they are far from being completed by the time Fayemi left office, the promise specifically required only commencement of rehabilitation and reconstruction before the end of January 2021, not completion.
