Governor Seyi Makinde's campaign promise to enact laws and regulations to sanitize the fishing industry for improved fish production and revenue generation during his first term (May 2019-May 2023) was not fulfilled.

While the Oyo State House of Assembly began reviewing the Fisheries Bill by May 2021 (two years into his first term), the bill had not been enacted into law by the end of the first administration in May 2023. 

 

The manifesto explicitly stated the objective was to enact “laws and regulations to sanitize the industry for improved fish production and revenue generation for the State Government”

Four years into the first term's conclusion, the legislative process remained incomplete, with no comprehensive fisheries law enacted to address identified challenges such as unregulated fishing activities, weed invasion, siltation of lakes, and lack of fish standardization. The promise was broken.
